Gardener / Horticulturalist with previous gardening or landscape maintenance experience, using garden and large estate machinery such as a ride on mower, strimmer and tractor, who has excellent interpersonal skills, and a flexible and enthusiastic approach is required for a well-established company based in Cambridge. SALARY: £25,000 - £27,000 per annum + Excellent Benefits (see below) LOCATION: Cambridge, Cambridgeshire (CB22) JOB TYPE: Full-Time, Permanent WORKING HOURS: 37 hours per week (On-Call schedule for winter months) Please note: A current valid full driving licence is essential JOB OVERVIEW We have a fantastic new job opportunity for a Gardener / Horticulturalist with previous gardening or landscape maintenance experience, using garden and large estate machinery such as a ride on mower, strimmer and tractor, who has excellent interpersonal skills, and a flexible and enthusiastic approach. Working as the Gardener / Horticulturalist you will be working within a team who are responsible for maintaining and managing the formal gardens and landscape of the site, ensuring that a complete maintenance service to the Estate is provided. As the Gardener / Horticulturalist you will use a variety of garden and grounds machinery in order to maintain soft and hard landscape areas. DUTIES Your duties as a Gardener / Horticulturalist will include: Provide seasonal maintenance of the estate in accordance with the programme of works as directed by the Head gardener and developed from the management plan Tasks to include (but not exclusively) grass cutting, weeding, planting, watering, leaf collecting, hedge cutting Use and maintenance of a range of garden and grounds machinery (e.g. ride-on, walk-behind mowers, tractors etc.) as necessary and undertaking of specialist training where required Formative and rejuvenative maintenance of deciduous and evergreen trees, shrubs, climbers and hedges To support line management in maintaining health and safety in the grounds and gardens to ensure the safety of staff and visitors Maintenance of hard landscaped areas, roads and pathways Training for the appropriate, timely and safe use of pesticides and other forms of pest control (moles, rabbits, rats) Assist in the recording and labelling of the plant collection, including any propagation tasks General estate maintenance including trees, fencing and conservation etc As and when required, assist the Estates Team with the collection of waste During the winter months (November March) the post-holder will be required to be on-call in order to respond to adverse weather conditions. Duties whilst on call, will include: snow clearing and salting/gritting on paths, car parks, roads and building access areas as and when required CANDIDATE REQUIREMENTS P.A.1 / P.A.6 Spraying City in Guilds/NVQ or equivalent qualification in Horticulture (desirable) Previous experience of working as a Gardener or landscape maintenance operative Experience of using garden machinery (such as driving ride on mowers, using strimmer, walk behind mowers, driving Tractors) Experience of using larger estate machinery (e.g. driving tractors, telehandlers) Experience in tool and machinery maintenance i.e., tool sharpening & ride on mower servicing An appreciation and commitment to Health and Safety Able to comprehend and communicate in the English language to a level appropriate for the position Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to communicate with staff at all levels Ability to work independently and as part of a team Able to prioritise tasks, especially in the absence of the Head Gardener Flexible and enthusiastic approach with a positive can do attitude Willingly provides assistance/support to others Dedicated and passionate about delivering the best for customers Ability to make independent decisions and solve routine problems Self-motivated and adaptable to change Willingness to work flexible hours, when required, e.g., Gritting in winter months Current valid full driving Licence Company Benefits Pension Allowance - 10.5% company contribution and 3% staff contribution Holiday Entitlement - 25 days p.a. plus bank Holidays and 3 privilege days for Christmas Shutdown Discretional Annual Performance Related Bonus Employee Wellbeing Service Restaurant Facilities Onsite Accommodation (There is currently a waiting list for all types of accommodation) Social - Sports & Social Club and onsite Gym Nursery and Holiday Playscheme on site (Availability of places is dependent on demand) Free Parking (please note that the company actively pursues a green transport policy) Any offer of employment will be subject to security screening and may be subject to health screening.
