Job Title: Finance Assistant
Reports to: Finance Director
Location: Flexible across the North of England, with regular work required in our Manchester offices
Role Purpose
As a Finance Assistant, you will play a vital role in supporting effective financial, procurement, and risk management services for Transport for the North (TfN). Leveraging technical expertise, you will address procedural queries and provide informed advice on finance and procurement policies and practices, ensuring smooth delivery of financial operations across the organization.
Key Responsibilities
Assist in implementing and executing finance, procurement, and risk processes, contributing to effective service delivery within TfN. Act as a point of contact for specialist queries, providing expert guidance on a range of financial and procurement policies and procedures. Support financial planning and analysis, and contribute to the development and maintenance of reporting systems and mechanisms. Deliver financial, procurement, and risk management support to internal teams, ensuring solutions are aligned with TfN’s goals and policies. Collaborate with project and programme teams, supporting complex business case development through financial insight and analysis. Provide clear, concise communication of complex financial information to non-technical audiences. Maintain accuracy and attention to detail in all financial reporting, while proactively identifying solutions to financial issues.

Excellent working knowledge of Purchase Ledger/Accounts Payable – Essential Good working knowledge of excel/managing excel models – Essential Experience of working to tight deadlines – Essential Public Sector experience – Desirable Microsoft Dynamics experience – Desirable Experience-wise, ideally part qualified or part-qualified by experience
