Job Summary
The Sustainability Advisor will support and advise on sustainability initiatives across various projects. This role will provide guidance on integrating sustainable practices throughout the project lifecycle, ensuring operations align with environmental standards, regulatory compliance, and client expectations. The successful candidate will adopt a proactive approach to help achieve sustainability targets and drive positive change in construction projects.
Key Responsibilities:
Sustainability Strategy Support:
* Assist in implementing the company’s sustainability strategy, focusing on reducing environmental impact and enhancing resource efficiency.
* Advise project teams on sustainable practices across all phases, ensuring alignment with industry standards (e.g., BREEAM, LEED).
* Contribute to setting and tracking sustainability targets, offering insights and support to project teams.
Project Sustainability Guidance:
* Provide ongoing advice on sustainable building materials, energy-saving solutions, and waste reduction strategies.
* Conduct site assessments and environmental audits to identify sustainability risks and opportunities.
* Collaborate with procurement teams to promote ethical and sustainable sourcing of materials.
Compliance and Reporting:
* Ensure adherence to relevant environmental regulations and sustainability certifications, such as BREEAM or LEED, across projects.
* Track key sustainability metrics, including carbon footprint, waste diversion, and energy efficiency, compiling reports for stakeholders.
* Provide data-driven recommendations based on performance outcomes to enhance sustainability practices.
Training and Awareness:
* Facilitate training sessions and workshops on sustainability best practices, empowering project teams and subcontractors to adopt sustainable approaches.
* Engage with clients, suppliers, and stakeholders to communicate sustainability objectives and progress.
* Represent the organisation at industry events and forums, sharing sustainability achievements and networking with professionals.

Continuous Improvement and Research:
* Stay informed on sustainability trends, new technologies, and best practices within the construction sector.
* Research and propose innovative solutions for sustainable building, contributing to continuous improvement initiatives.
* Collaborate with other departments to pilot new sustainable practices, materials, and technologies.
Key Skills and Qualifications
* Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Science, Sustainability, Engineering, or a related discipline.
* 2+ years’ experience in a sustainability-focused role, ideally within construction or environmental consultancy.
* Familiarity with sustainability certifications and regulations such as BREEAM, LEED, and WELL.
* Strong understanding of UK environmental laws and best practices in sustainable construction.
* Effective communication and presentation skills, with experience in training and stakeholder engagement.
* Proficiency in sustainability reporting and data analysis.
* A proactive, solutions-oriented approach with a passion for environmental impact.
