Lead Civil Engineer

A thriving and respected employee owned civil and structural engineering consultancy has an opening for an experienced Lead Civil Engineer. With 20+ staff and three offices, the right candidate will greatly add to their ability to further grow the business.
A self-reliant individual with drive and ambition to take forward and expand the civil engineering services sector across the company, you will be supporting projects in all building and infrastructure sectors of the construction industry.
This is a key role in the company and will provide the opportunity to enhance and expand the civil engineering service offered by the business through effective project delivery and development of client relationships. The Lead Civil Engineer will be responsible for the effective and profitable delivery of civil engineering and infrastructure design services and the role will involve:
Managing the operational delivery of projects through effective planning and organisation and in accordance with the company policies and procedures.
Preparing fee proposals and tenders for civil engineering projects and work packages.
Preparing technical solutions for projects to meet or exceed client requirements.
Liaising with clients and project team professionals.
Delegating and supervising the work of staff within the team.
Monitoring and assessing effectiveness of service delivery against client requirements.
Monitoring commercial performance to ensure that projects are delivered profitably.
Developing operational programmes, policies and procedures and conducting assessment and evaluation of delivery.
Strategic planning in relation to own sphere of operation and contribute to strategic plans for the business as a whole.
Seeking out opportunities to develop new clients and sources of work as well as maintaining and building existing client relationships.
Monitoring of current and forecast workload.
Development of team staff including coaching and mentoring.
So what do we need?
Relevant University degree in Civil engineering.
Comprehensive knowledge of regulations and design standards related to roads and drainage such as Scottish Water, CIRIA, Building Regulations, relevant planning requirements related to roads and drainage, local authority roads development guides etc.
Demonstrable experience of obtaining approvals for designs from statutory authorities such as councils, Scottish Water and SEPA.
Experience of dealing directly with clients and other building professionals such as project managers, architects and planning consultants.
Capability in the use of industry standard software such as PDS, Civils 3D and Autocad.
Excellent oral and written communication skills.
Proactive and personable
Be able to demonstrate an appropriate level of experience in most of the role requirements described.
A chartered engineer or equivalent level (ICE or IHT) is preferred although not essential.
