Duties and Responsibilities Perform extensive account analysis according to underwriting guidelines, to include thorough review of underwriting application/submission, internet research, reviewing requested terms and conditions including underlying policy forms when issuing on a follow-form basis, liaising with other departments to establish full understanding of risk exposures and completion of underwriting rating tools Perform referrals (as required) with Senior Vice President Errors & Omissions Maintaining underwriting files in an orderly manner and in accordance with the underwriting guidelines. Active role in the development of new business, exploring opportunities and marketing Liaise with actuarial support to develop premium benchmarking and pricing models, with development of account pricing / recommendations. Authorising of quotes, binders and invoices in accordance with company guidelines Liaise with Claims Department on any specific claim activity and overall market claim concerns which could potentially affect profitability Stay current with respect to major industry issues and developments. Attend important industry conferences and seminars as appropriate Delegation (and supervision) of work to Assistant Underwriters as deemed appropriate, contributing to the professional development and training of more junior members or direct reports, where applicable Attend client/broker meetings, lunches, dinners and other social outings. Meet with key brokers regularly to discuss production, service and other topics relative to divisional operations Contribution to the formation of overall Errors & Omissions strategy / business plans and the execution thereof Person Specification: Ideally, a graduate-level individual with professional insurance qualification 5 years demonstrable experience underwriting blue-chip accounts and clients, with expertise and in-depth working knowledge of standard market policy and endorsement wordings. Excellent analytical skills and solid knowledge of pricing & actuarial models and methods Must be highly articulate, with exceptional communication and interpersonal skills that are required for daily liaison with clients and brokers including delivering effective presentations and building strong working relationships. Strong marketing and business development capability and commercial acumen. Must have the ability to influence and negotiate to various levels of seniority, internally and externally. Highly computer literate within MS office applications and an advanced level proficiency using underwriting systems such as Genius/Openbox etc Methodical approach to work, strong organization skills; capable of dealing with tight reporting deadlines and conflicting priorities Overall team player with collaborative outlook and ability to coach and develop more junior members of the team.
