Founded in 1799, Holmes Halls (Processors) Ltd has over two centuries of experience in leather production, from crafting the renowned sole and strap leathers to pioneering tanned driving belts in 1850.
Our tannery in Hull remains a symbol of quality, processing UK and Irish bovine hides into full-substance wet blue leather, sold worldwide. As we move into our third century of operations, we continue to blend tradition with innovation.
The Role
As Assistant Technical Manager, you'll lead the technical side of our tannery's wet blue production, ensuring all processes meet regulatory standards.
Key Responsibilities:
- Oversee daily process control and resolve technical issues in wet blue production
- Manage and optimise wastewater treatment plant operations
- Monitor and document KPI and process parameters, initiating corrective actions as needed
- Implement ongoing improvement projects with the senior management team
- Manage health and safety, ensuring compliance with COSHH and risk protocols
- Oversee Environmental and Quality ISO systems to meet industry standards
- Train process operators in continual improvement initiatives and manage training for new operatives

The Ideal Candidate:
We seek a proactive technical leader to join our team. About you:
- Strong background in process management within chemical or manufacturing sectors
- Hands-on approach, driven to tackle technical challenges and advance the business
- Degree or HND in a science-based field (Chemical Engineering preferred)
- Knowledge of ISO standards (14001 / 9001) and wastewater treatment
- Comfortable in engineering environments, with an understanding of process equipment and controls
- Budget management skills
