Working as part of a dynamic underwriting team, you will work closely with the Head of Underwriting to underwrite existing portfolios whilst also assisting the business with the implementation of its underwriting strategy across the product suite, to deliver on both income and loss ratio targets as defined by the business. You will ensure the timely and efficient handling of day-to-day referrals within agreed targets, whilst working within your agreed underwriting authority level and referring any risk that falls outside of your agreed authority. The role requires technical knowledge of the Company’s products offered and the systems used by the Group along with a flexible approach to systems used by some Brokers Partners, to deliver Arkel products to the wider market and excellent customer service. Ideally the candidate will have experience in working within both the specialist personal lines and commercial lines MGA arena. Our product lines include: - Household Residential Let Leisure SME/Tradesman Key Responsibilities: Day to Day management of allocated Broker & Distributor relationships. Negotiate and underwrite within defined parameters in a consistent and profitable manner. Support the delivery of new/existing products to new/existing broker partners and/or external platforms. Analyse and update existing products to make sure they are delivering expected outcomes. Travel where necessary to meetings. Be a referral point for the underwriters/trainee underwriters within the business. Handle claim underwriting referrals from the claims team. Provide training and guidance for the trainee underwriters. Skills and Experience: Evidence of personal and professional development and/or commitment to study for the Chartered Insurance Institute exams (ACII). Pragmatic and confident decision maker with good analytical and numerical reasoning skills. Sound understanding of insurance market and processes across MGA insurance operations. Excellent relationship management skills and experience of building successful long-term relationships both internal & external to influence. Strong organisational skills and prioritisation. Strong level of technical underwriting expertise in a personal lines and SME insurance environment Be flexible and highly motivated to help the business achieve its targets. Ability to communicate at all levels. Working knowledge of Brokers Software House systems would be advantageous.
