My client is searching to provide large scale investment to create a new offering in Reading. The business is a growing SME haulage business dedicated to providing efficient and reliable transport solutions across the UK. With a focus on customer satisfaction and a commitment to safety, we are looking for a motivated and experienced Transport Manager to join our team in Reading, Berkshire!


Job Description

As a Transport Manager you will report into the Logistics General Manager on a daily basis. You will have full responsibility for the new site at Reading, Berkshire along with the following areas:

  • Manage daily transport operations, including scheduling, routing, and fleet management of 40 HGV and LGV vehicles.
  • Ensure compliance with transport regulations, including VOSA and Working Time Directive (WTD) standards.
  • Conduct regular tacho downloads to monitor driver hours and compliance, ensuring all records are maintained accurately.
  • Carry out driver debriefs to assess performance, address any issues, and provide ongoing training and support.
  • Develop and implement cost-effective strategies to optimize transport efficiency and fleet utilisation.
  • Liaise with clients to understand their transport needs and deliver exceptional customer service.
  • Maintain accurate records and reports related to transport activities and vehicle maintenance.
  • Collaborate with other departments to ensure seamless operations and service delivery.
  • Oversee vehicle maintenance schedules and liaise with maintenance providers to ensure fleet reliability.

The Ideal Candidate

The successful candidate will have an expansive background in freight forwarding across both import and export. The ideal Freight Branch Manager will have the following skills and experience:

  • 3+ year's experience in the transport sector as a Transport Manager or Senior Supervisor
  • Experience of managing teams of 25+ across the transport & logistics industry
  • Strong knowledge of transport regulations, including VOSA compliance and WTD requirements
  • CPC (International or National) qualified.
  • Strong communication and leadership skills
  • Commutable to Reading in Berkshire.
