Job Requirements / Description
My client in Worcester is currently in need of a Control & Automation Engineer due to ongoing expansion.
This position is ideal for engineers who thrive on the challenge of designing and implementing sophisticated automation, mechatronic, and data acquisition systems for end-to-end projects. Each project brings unique demands, offering engineers the chance to achieve deep job satisfaction by delivering solutions in advanced automotive and industrial settings. Candidates should possess a solid engineering foundation to support the design and troubleshooting of automated test systems, along with experience in Windows-based programming (preferably in C# or Visual Basic) to develop new code and modify existing code tailored to specific customer needs.
Job Responsibilities
* Identifying optimal methods to implement tailored automation and control processes for each application, leveraging my client’s proprietary software and DACS (Data Acquisition and Control System) based on detailed customer requirements and specifications.
* Writing control software in C# using the advanced internal API to bring projects to life. Knowledge of VB6/VBA is helpful for maintaining legacy systems.
* Providing both on-site and remote support to assist customers with troubleshooting, system updates, and integration of new functionality.
* Connecting to third-party devices and integrating them within the client’s software environment, using C# for seamless interaction.
* Familiarity with communication protocols like Ethernet, Serial, EtherCAT, CAN, Profibus, and AK protocol (via Ethernet/Serial) is beneficial.
* Developing automation routines using standard software editor tools within the internal platform.
* Assessing engineering systems to determine the best approach for automation and control.
* Reviewing post-test diagnostics to advise on rectifying faults, whether they are software, electrical, or mechanical, within complex systems.
* Drafting test procedures and acceptance criteria for customer sign-off.
* Developing custom functionalities to meet specific customer requirements.
* Performing installation, testing, and documentation tasks on-site in the UK and globally, with customer visits expected about 20% of the time.
* Working with electrical engineers to specify requirements for new systems.
* Collaborating with commissioning engineers and project managers to achieve customer sign-off.
* Taking the initiative on in-house projects to anticipate future needs and improve existing tools.
* Assisting the sales team with technical details for quotations.
* Using SourceTree, BitBucket, and Jira for source code management.
* Experience with PLC systems, especially safety PLCs, is helpful but not required.
* Opportunity to lead various projects as a project lead.
Ideal Candidate
* A proactive, independent thinker with excellent time management abilities.
* Strong skills in C# and Visual Studio.
* Solid understanding of control and automation engineering.
* Ideally holds a combined degree in electrical, mechanical, robotics, mechatronics, or automation engineering, with at least 3 years of experience in automation within an electrical context.
* Familiarity with automation hardware like sensors, actuators, and inverters.
* Willing to work away from home during the week if needed, with occasional overseas travel as required.
* Strong written and verbal communication skills.
* Full, clean UK driving licence.
* Permanent right to work in the UK.
Benefits
37.5-hour work week with flexible hours.
33 days of holiday (25 days plus bank holidays).
Travel, overnight, and site expenses covered per company policy.
