We are looking for an enthusiastic, creative and organised individual to join our Engage team as a Youth Theatre Coordinator.
Mayflower Theatre is the largest theatre on the South Coast with 2,271 seats in the auditorium. The Theatre aims to bring a diverse range of shows to Southampton. We present a mixture of spectacular touring productions, from musicals to dance, opera, drama, ballet and comedy.
MAST Mayflower Studios is a cultural and community hub. We present family shows, dance, musicals, music, comedy, circus, cabaret, spoken word, and visual arts. We put participation at the heart of everything we do. Both the Theatre and Studios operate under the Mayflower brand. Collectively we provide Inspiring Experiences to all who engage with each venue.
As the Youth Theatre coordinator, you will facilitate musical theatre sessions with ages 7-18, as well as support on our drama strand and coordinate our Youth Production Arts group, as well as supporting the wider participation department. This role is a full-time, fixed term maternity cover role on a 12-month contract.
Responsibilities
- Supporting the Youth Team Programme Leader in the delivery, administration and evaluation of the Mayflower Youth Theatre (Drama & Musical strands).
- Facilitate the members of our Junior Youth Theatre, MYT (Musical strand) to develop their acting, and performance skills and support on MYT (Drama strand).
- Administer and coordinate our Youth Production Arts programme.
- Support on all Youth Theatre productions and performances.
- Support in ensuring the safety and security of MYT members. Employing First Aid and following Safeguarding procedures as appropriate.
- Deliver tours, school workshops and talks.
Knowledge, skills and experience
- Be educated to a degree level in drama, performing arts or an arts-based subject or equivalent qualification or experience.
- Have experience facilitating musical theatre, programmes with young people.
- Have experience of planning and facilitating musical and theatre workshops.
- Have good administration skills, project co-ordinating arts-based projects with young people.
- Has excellent communication skills and ability to work under pressure with a flexible approach
- A team player with ability to respond the needs of a changing environment.
- Be proficient in Microsoft packages inc. word, excel and outlook.
Additional information
The role will be offered based full time maternity cover (1 year), 37.5 hours per week, evening and weekend working will be required, 5 days a week and £26,093 per annum with benefits.
