Role overview Senior Medical Writers are the scientific backbone of RiSE Scientific, translating complex medical and scientific information into clear, accurate, and compelling content for various audiences. They work closely with account managers, creative teams, and clients to develop a wide range of materials, from scientific publications and educational content to promotional materials. They are passionate about ensuring that all their work is scientifically sound, strategically aligned, and tailored to meet the needs of clients, healthcare professionals, patients, and other stakeholders in the healthcare industry. As they continue to grow in their careers, Senior Medical Writers take on more responsibilities for mentoring their junior peers and reviewing the work of other writers, as well as developing an independent voice with clients and KOLs. This is a remote working role. Co-working days with the senior team in London will be available based on the candidate’s location and needs. Roles and responsibilities Develop scientific copy of the highest standards of accuracy and quality for a range of educational and promotional materials for different clients and stakeholders Manage the development of complex medical communication materials across various therapeutic areas Review the work of other writers for scientific accuracy and strategic alignment with project objectives Proof and edit own work and that of other writers according to client style and specifications Provide strategic input on medical communication plans and content development strategies Form close working relationships with clients and KOLs Act as the key scientific client contact for individual projects Participate in, and lead, calls with clients and KOLs Act as the key team member for on-site editorial support (e.g. facilitating slide rehearsals) with the support of the on-site lead Attend client meetings with the wider team Generate briefs for other writers and liaise with external suppliers Communicate effectively with the team on the development of projects, including timelines and project status Contribute to internal team meetings and brainstorming sessions Work on multiple projects simultaneously, meeting tight deadlines Input into the development of budgets and timelines Develop and maintain in-depth knowledge of therapy areas relevant to own accounts, including product data, terminology, and competitor awareness Keep-up-to date on guidance and regulations that impact on the agency and client business, including good publication practice (GPP), the ABPI code of conduct, and others as appropriate Ensure all content is compliant and adheres to the good publication practice (GPP), the ABPI code of conduct, and others as appropriate Support senior team in new business by providing scientific expertise during the development of proposals and pitches Follow internal management and standard operating procedures Involved in coaching and mentoring junior team members Maintain up-to-date knowledge and capability in all main software packages including Microsoft Office Able to travel occasionally (including internationally) Required skills and knowledge Degree in a biomedical science, pharmacy, or medicine. Advanced degree or PhD preferred 3–5 years’ experience in a medical education and communications agency environment, or in a pharmaceutical company Excellent scientific writing and ability to adapt style and content for different target audiences Passion for scientific storytelling Ability to prioritise and balance multiple priorities and demands Flexibility, adaptability and resourcefulness Willingness to think beyond the brief Strong interpersonal and communication skills Ability to work independently and as part of a team Attention to detail (style/consistency, grammar, syntax, scientific accuracy, proof-reading, layout and design) High-level IT skills (including Microsoft Office) Desired skills and knowledge Thorough understanding of healthcare compliance laws and guidelines for the UK, EU and USA Aspires to work on creative programmes Experience developing eLearning content High-level PowerPoint design skills Experience managing and developing other writers Experience with EndNote At RiSE Scientific we know diversity fosters creativity and innovation.
