Job Summary:
We are seeking an experienced and proactive
Assistant Chief Engineer
to join our hotels engineering and maintenance team. The ideal candidate will support the Chief Engineer in managing and overseeing all hotel maintenance operations, including air conditioning, plant room machinery, plumbing, and electrical systems. This position is integral to ensuring that the hotels facilities run smoothly, efficiently, and safely, providing the best possible experience for our guests. The role involves hands-on supervision and expertise in HVAC (Heating, Ventilation, and Air Conditioning) systems, as well as the operation and maintenance of the plant room and its equipment.
Key Responsibilities: 1. Day-to-Day Engineering Operations: Assist the Chief Engineer in leading the day-to-day operations of the engineering department to ensure the hotel infrastructure is maintained to a high standard. Prioritise, assign, and monitor tasks for engineering team members to ensure all maintenance work is completed efficiently and on time. Take a lead role in managing and troubleshooting issues related to the air conditioning, plumbing, electrical, and other technical systems in the hotel. 2. Plant Room and Energy Management: Oversee the maintenance and efficient operation of plant room equipment, including boilers, water heaters, pumps, generators, and filtration systems. Regularly inspect and monitor plant room machinery to ensure all equipment is running at optimal efficiency and within regulatory guidelines. Implement energy management strategies to reduce utility consumption while maintaining guest comfort. Make recommendations to improve energy efficiency in the plant room and other parts of the hotel. 3. HVAC Systems Management: Ensure the air conditioning systems across the hotel are regularly serviced and maintained to provide an optimal guest experience. Troubleshoot, repair, and replace components of HVAC systems as necessary. This includes refrigeration units, air handling units (AHUs), fan coil units (FCUs), and ductwork. Respond to any issues with heating, ventilation, or air conditioning promptly to ensure a comfortable environment for both guests and staff. 4. Maintenance and Repair: Schedule and carry out routine maintenance on all hotel systems, including electrical, plumbing, air conditioning, and mechanical systems. Collaborate with the Chief Engineer to create a preventive maintenance schedule for all equipment and ensure regular checks are conducted. Lead the engineering team in performing repairs and addressing malfunctions in systems and equipment. Ensure that the plant room equipment, HVAC systems, plumbing, and electrical components are functioning correctly. 5. Health & Safety Compliance: Maintain full compliance with health and safety regulations, hotel standards, and building codes. Conduct regular safety inspections to identify potential hazards in the hotels mechanical systems or plant room. Propose and implement solutions to eliminate these risks. Ensure that all team members are trained on safety protocols and the correct use of equipment. Oversee that proper safety measures are adhered to at all times during maintenance or repair work. 6. Vendor and Contractor Relations: Liaise with external contractors, technicians, and suppliers to ensure specialised equipment is serviced according to manufacturer guidelines. Monitor the work of outside contractors to ensure they adhere to hotel standards and deadlines when performing repairs or installations related to the plant room, HVAC, or other systems. 7. Emergency Response & Crisis Management: Be available to respond to emergencies, including equipment failures, power outages, or major malfunctions of the HVAC or plant room systems. Lead the team in implementing quick and effective solutions during crisis situations, ensuring minimal disruption to hotel operations and guest services. 8. Team Leadership & Development: Supervise and mentor the engineering staff, providing training, guidance, and professional development opportunities to ensure the team is skilled and knowledgeable in their roles. Assist in managing team schedules and workloads, providing input on performance evaluations and areas for improvement. Qualifications: Education & Experience: Bachelors degree
in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related field (preferred). Minimum of 3-5 years of experience
in engineering/maintenance roles within the hospitality or facilities management industry. Extensive knowledge of air conditioning systems, plant room operations, and general hotel infrastructure maintenance. Previous experience managing or supervising a team of engineers or technicians is highly desirable. Technical Skills: Strong expertise in
HVAC systems , including maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair of air conditioning units, chillers, AHUs, FCUs, and duct systems. Comprehensive knowledge of
plant room equipment
such as boilers, pumps, and generators, with hands-on experience in managing their operations. Understanding of
electrical and plumbing systems , with the ability to diagnose and fix common issues related to hotel infrastructure. Proficiency in
Building Management Systems (BMS)
and
Energy Management Systems (EMS)
to monitor and optimize the performance of plant room equipment and other hotel systems.
