Overview
\nThe System Design Authority (SDA) is responsible for the coherence and assurance of the design activity for the entirety of the platform. The primary focus of the Legacy Systems Service is to advise and assure the design is able to integrate and interoperate with the extant defence Communications and Information Systems estate in accordance with the programme requirements. This service reports directly to the SDA Lead. The Legacy Systems Service's principle responsibilities include:
\nSupport
\n- \n
- Acting as the point of contact for legacy system information and architecture on behalf of the SDA Lead. \n
- Interacting with programme, project, and engineering team leads to ensure good awareness and communication of legacy and current solution integrations and dependencies. \n
- Supporting design vision creation, design decisions, and design review as part of the end to end assurance process. \n
- Supporting Programme and Project Stakeholder engagement and RAIDO management. \n
- Liaising with team leads across the NSoIT(D) Programme and wider Defence Digital organisations to ensure a robust solution is delivered within Time, Cost and Performance. \n
Design
\n- \n
- Identifying and communicating solution intent across programme teams and the SDA Lead, and support the review of all high, intermediate, and low-level designs for coherence, technical content, and quality. \n
- Aligning standards, frameworks, and security with overall business and technology strategy. \n
- Supporting the design of platform architecture elements to enable the system to function as part of the wider defence estate, during inception, transition, and operations. \n
Assure
\n- \n
- Ensuring that standards, frameworks, and security postures align with overall business and technology strategies and policies e.g. Defence as a Platform, Federated Mission Networking and JSPs. \n
- Identifying capability gaps in existing architectures and recommend changes or enhancements in line with Agile and continuous improvement methods. \n
Essential skills, qualifications, and experience
\n- \n
- In order to deliver this service, it is essential that individuals have: \n
- A minimum of 10 years demonstrable experience in the following: \n
- Architecture and development of secure Hardware and Software solutions with successful delivery on complex, large scale programmes utilising emerging technologies where possible. \n
- Legacy and current operational and deployed MoD systems, services and applications \n
- Writing technical requirements and producing detailed solution architectures. \n
- Delivering accredited secure solutions within the UK Public Sector. \n
- Defining scope for product selections against complex requirements, specifically measuring performance, cost and time. \n
- Successfully supporting a large development team, ensuring delivery timescales are met. \n
- Recent experience in low level design and integration of: \n
- Public and Private cloud architectures utilising Software Defined Datacentre (SDDC) techniques. \n
- Virtualisation technologies such as VMware ESXi, vCentre, vSAN, Site Recovery Manager and Horizon. \n
- Microsoft Windows Server operating systems. \n
- Enterprise Microsoft technologies such as Exchange, Skype, SQL and Group Policy. \n
- An understanding of Defence Lines of Development and MOD Capability Integration. \n
- A firm grasp of MOD Service management tooling and ITIL. \n
- Proven track record of implementing NCSC design patterns. \n
- Government Grade Cryptography Provisioning and Management \n
- Exceptional communication skills with diverse and adverse audiences \n
- Strong critical thinking and analytical skills. \n
- Ability to identify risks associated with business processes, operations, information security programmes, and technology projects. \n
- Competency in MS Office Suite. \n
- Hold a current SC clearance and be prepared to undergo DV clearance. \n
Desirable skills, qualifications, and experience
\n- \n
- In order to deliver this service, it is desirable that individuals have experience of: \n
- Working within the public sector, preferably Defence, and ideally with Defence Digital (formerly ISS). \n
- Design and configuration of Wide Area Networks, high grade encryption and DSCP traffic management. \n
- Military Information Services such as NATO Functional Area Services Apps, UK Base Services and MOD Business management applications. \n
- Automation and Orchestration technologies and principals. \n
- Security implementations such as PKI and proxy services in line with MOD Security assurance processes. \n
- Delivering in Agile and Waterfall project management environments \n
- The Atlassian Toolset - JIRA, Confluence and BitBucket for delivering Agile based projects. \n
