Parliamentary Officer

Company:  LONDON COUNCILS-1
Location: London
Closing Date: 06/11/2024
Hours: Full Time
Type: Permanent
Job Requirements / Description

We want to recruit a confident, friendly and highly-motivated parliamentary officer to join our communications team.

You will have a background in parliamentary affairs and engagement with knowledge of, and a passion for, local government and public service reform.

To work effectively for a cross-party organisation where all three major parties have a say, you will need the ability to implement a range of parliamentary lobbying and influencing techniques.

This is an opportunity to work in a prominent London-wide role. Exceptional written and oral communication skills are essential, as is a commitment to London and its people.

You will need to be a team player and be confident talking to colleagues and stakeholders at all levels.

The job includes planning, research and writing plus daily contact and relationship-building with London's Parliamentarians and their staff, as well as a leading role in the Secretariat for the APPG for London.

This is a politically restricted post, under Section 2 of the Local Government and Housing Act 1989.

Members of this team are currently hybrid working, combining office and remote working, with an expectation to be in the office for set days each week, team awaydays and organisation-wide events. Occasional evening working is also required.

London Councils is the collective of London local government, the 32 boroughs and the City of London Corporation. They come together through London Councils to work in collaboration to deliver their shared ambitions for London and Londoners.

Through lobbying, collaboration and partnership, we ensure the voice of the London boroughs are united, and heard at a local, regional and national level.

We also run a number of services on behalf of the boroughs including the Freedom Pass, Taxicard and Health Emergency Badge.

London Councils is committed to equality of opportunities. As users of the disability confident symbol, we guarantee to interview all disabled applicants who meet the minimum criteria for the post.
