People Advisor – Birmingham – Reputable Charity – Training & Progression – Flexible Working Hours – Competitive Pay Rate – Temporary  The Organisation: A responsible and progressive charity, aiming to provide social justice and support to vulnerable groups of people across the UK; victims of domestic violence, ex-offenders, young people, people with mental health difficulties and those struggling with substance misuse. They are a well-established organisation with a positive market reputation and over 20 years of experience in supported living. This company are currently operating supported housing services for rehabilitating ex-offenders that have left a prison setting. The service ensures the instilling of independent living skills, positive wellbeing and personal development within ex-offenders, working towards their bettering of life and prevention of repeat offending. This job role is within our People Advisory team and provides a range of people advisory services across our organisation’s business units and at all stages of the employee lifecycle. The advisory services are provided to our employees, leadership and management team members, peers within the People & OD team and external organisations and partners. Our People Advisory service is always aligned with our strategic objectives, and in accordance with our policies and procedures. Service delivery follows our high standards of customer service and quality, with the aim of ensuring we have a great place to work. Part of this job role involves managing a caseload of active work relating, but not limited, to: • Absence Management • Performance Improvement Plans (PIPs) • Discipline & Grievance In addition to caseload management, regular tasks include: • Providing management support and advice to promote high standards of people management, support outcome improvements and conflict resolution • Supporting the process of maintaining and improving people-related policies and procedures • Supporting the ongoing work of process improvement in our People Advisory team and, more broadly, with peers across our People & OD team • Providing valuable feedback to enable effective risk management and process improvement, often based on the outcome of cases and/or advice • Supporting the collation of Advisory-based data and MI • Looking after the process of employee risk assessments at all stages of the employee lifecycle • Supporting projects within the People Advisory team and the broader People & OD team. • Supporting consultation processes to include restructuring and TUPE, ACAS and early conciliation, health, and disability related referrals etc. • This job role will partner closely with members of the People & OD team to share insights, provide colleague support, and allow for consistency of service where relevant. Working collaboratively to support how we shape and improve our people processes and interventions to meet the needs of colleagues. The Responsibilities: Providing people advisory support and advice • Using your comprehensive understanding of our organisation’s strategic goals, service delivery objectives and operational challenges, you will be able to guide managers and colleagues with advice and support to create and maintain an environment which allows everyone to perform and thrive. • As part of a trusted team of specialist People Advisors, you will support all departments across our organisation with efficient and effective advice and support which is both people & solution focused, providing both foundational advice and handling more complex queries. • Coach and support line managers to respond to people risks, issues and opportunities within their teams, including leading ad hoc learning sessions to respond to common learning needs. • Support the delivery of employee engagement activities within the organisation, which may include running focus groups, collating survey results, and forming guidelines and workshop plans to explore the findings. • An advisory referral point, for queries to our HR inbox that require escalation outside of first line operational support. Case Management • Supporting employee relations through the effective management of employee relations cases focusing primarily but not exclusively on disciplinary & grievance, absence management and performance improvement plans (PIPs). • Ensuring case management complies with relevant policies and procedures, including effective and transparent communication and robust record-keeping and document management. • Supporting the continual development of robust and clear people guidance documents and learning. • Providing regular case management updates to colleagues in the People & OD team, operational management and leadership teams, and participating employees. • Cascading knowledge and risk management strategies to support future improvements and enhance employee relations within our organisation   Supporting continuous improvement through people projects • Supporting people projects, both business unit specific and cross organisational, in support of delivering our people strategy and plans. • Taking responsibility for defined activities to continuously improve people policies and processes, including access to information. For example, collaborating with another People Advisor to contribute to review of our people policies, or the refresh of guidance materials within our people processes. Person Specification   ESSENTIAL SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE, AND EXPERIENCE • Demonstrable practical experience of providing people guidance and support to managers and colleagues, ideally in a HR Advisory capacity. • Evidence of good HR generalist experience across the employee life cycle. • Experience of supporting or managing small projects to improve people outcomes or measures in the workplace. • Strong up-to-date knowledge of good practice in HR policy, practices, and in UK employment law • Minimum CIPD level 5 or equivalent practical experience PERSONAL ATTRIBUTES • Strong communication skills, with the ability to build effective relationships within a dispersed and hybrid working environment • Effective problem-solving skills, demonstrated through an ability to critically analyse a situation and to propose options and next steps. • Resilient, and willing and able to seek support from others where needed. • Well-organised with effective time management skills and the ability to work within time constraints and effectively manage a busy caseload and workload • A strong team player who is supportive of others and shares knowledge and insights with colleagues • Customer service focused with a commitment to efficiency and quality. • Capable of building and maintaining strong relationships based on high levels of reliability, trust, confidence, and integrity. • Committed to personal development and growth. • Aligned with our values: We are Reliable, Inspiring, Courageous, Compassionate, Inclusive.
